Nürburgring Nordschleife

Friday, October 1 So, I did it – I drove a track car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife! The 12.9-miles both terrified and thrilled. I wish I could have kept going!

2021 Istria, Croatia: Mark and I set double alarms to ensure we did not miss our opportunity to learn about truffles in Istria. We laced up our boots and met our Eat Istria guide, Goran. Hopping into his car, we headed north towards Motovun with great anticipation.

Zagreb Saturday Night

June 22, Day 4: Zagreb: it just sounds exotic, doesn’t it? This is where “From Russia with Love”, the second Bond movie, was filmed. We saw no lurking assassins, but then one never does… At any rate we had a wonderful Zagreb Saturday Night.

Bombingham

June 3, Day 3: Birmingham earned the nickname “Bombingham.” Between 1947 and 1965, more than 50 dynamite bombs devastated black homes and churches to suppress desegregation efforts in Birmingham.

Porsche Track Experience, Part 2

June 4, Day 4: It’s mid-morning and time for Porsche Track Experience Part 2: The Big Track. After practicing fundamentals early in the morning, I am ready to barrel down straights, squeal through corners, and fly over hills lapping the Barber track.

Porsche Driving School

June 2, Day 2: I arrive at the Porsche Driving School 30 minutes early. I want to review the track before threading someone else’s $100k Porsche through the tight curves that morning. A lone instructor is lapping in the cool morning air at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta. This is going to be a very good day!

Wrestling Marmots

July 20, Day 49: An extra “Byte” for today – wrestling marmots! Jean and I were hiking down Mount Rainier on the last leg of Skyline Loop Trail and found these two agitators. They were talkin’ smack (well, barking really) and facing off. The action was about to begin.

Rainier Sunrise

July 19, Day 48: Our day began at about 3:30 am, as we were intent on seeing the sunrise from Mount Rainier. The morning was chilly and clear, and the views brilliant.

Cottonwood Canyon Road

June 18, Day 17: We ventured Cottonwood Canyon Road, a 47-mile backroad through the Grand Escalante National Monument from near Zion to Kodachrome Basin State Park. We left our yurt near Zion National Park and headed east on US Highway 89 for a couple of hours to a non-descript exit. We turned north, and the pavement ended.
