Thames Run

Aug 16, 2022: London, England. Tourists were already swarming Southbank as I started my morning Thames Run; I felt like a half-back, trying to hit a gap in the line just to gain a few yards.

Andorra

June 3, 2022: Andorra. Jean and I added Andorra, another European micro-state, to our “been there” list. The tiny country, population 80,000, has an area of only 181 square miles.

May 1, 2022: Luxembourg Run. Luxembourg is a stunning city, one of the most beautiful we have seen anywhere. And this morning, the sun is dodging clouds while the flowers shine a light all their own. It is a perfect day for a run!

2021 Travel Recap

April 12, 2022: 2021 Travel Recap. The skies are blue, and the weather is warming again in Charlotte. We can hear joyous kids in the park and live music playing as we pack for our 2022 trip. More on that later, but first, I thought I’d share a summary recap of 2021 travels.

Running 2021

Running 2021 Highlights: What a phenomenal year! And yes, I am referring to 2021. For the second time in my life, I “collected runs” from 52 different places in 52 consecutive weeks. Not bad for a year that included 2 months of downtime for surgery and a host of COVID travel restrictions.

July 2016: Running 52 in 52. It is a sultry day; the sun has drunk the dew from the grass*; the air is heavy, and every breath is wet. I have one run left…

Strasbourg in the Rain

October 3: Dull skies rained steadily as we detoured into Strasbourg. But serendipity! There we found the best food and best music of our trip to the Rhine region.

Ston

July 3, Day 13: Jean and I enjoyed 4 days and nights in Luka Ston, on the Croatian Peljesac peninsula an hour or so north of Dubrovnik. The area remains a bit off the beaten path, and is rich in salt, oysters, seafood, olives, and wine. Is it our favorite Croatian place so far?

Definitely maybe. 🙂

Running Rovinj

June 26, Day 8: After savoring the sunrise with Jean, I begin running Rovinj to collect a new city. The blessedly cool breeze lightens my steps as I explore the Aegean shoreline opposite the old-town harbor in the bright morning.

Running Zagreb

June 21, Day 3: Time to explore Zagreb by running Bundek City Park! As a runner, the route beckoned; a string of green spaces leading to the Liberty Bridge over the Sava River. Just beyond, 135 acres of green laced with curving trails.
